Track Of The Day :: Thomas Cohen - Honeymoon

The demise of S.C.U.M may have left many wondering as to what enigmatic frontman Thomas Cohen might next be up to. The answer arrives in the form of his debut solo effort - 'Honeymoon'. And not many may have been expecting something like this either.

Over the course of its 6 minutes-plus, 'Honeymoon' weaves something quite lush and sumptuous around you. That's not to say that it may take a few hearings to fully appreciate, but once it gets inside your head you'll be wanting to hear it again and again. Think Scott Walker, Lee Hazelwood in its nature, with a horn section that towards the end veers into jazz territory to turn it into something quite unlike anything else you'll hear this week - or this month.
